Loved the story of a Geordie boy who got fed up with the price of a train seat to London from Newcastle. They wanted £78.50- and that was the "discounted" cost as he was using his student railcard.
Checking into options he noted that he could fly to Menorca, hire a car to the beach, grab a cocktail and then fly onto Gatwick. By doing so he would still have forty quid in his back bin. As he said:
"Newcastle - London Train £78.50
Newcastle - Menorca🇪🇸 £15.99
Menorca - London 🇬🇧 £10.99
Car hire £7.50
Sex on the beach cocktail 🍸£4
I can have a night on a Spanish island, hire a car, have a cocktail on the beach, fly back to London and still have £40 left over..... OR I could have sat on a train What would you have rather done?"
We'll have to presume this is one way so he'll still have to get back, but I'd like to know how he got to London from Gatwick. A quick check shows that the Gatwick Express comes to an eye-watering £19.90 for the half an hour journey.
He probably took the bus which may take three times as long but can be had for under a fiver...
