Hot Dog Time
As ever, on American Independence Day, they hold a hot dog eating competition on Coney Island. And as usual, it's between two people who are aiming to cram as many sausage and bun combos down their gullet to win and this year was no different- except the winner set a new record.
Joey "Jaws" Chestnut ate 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes at the annual contest at in New York, shattering his old record of 66. His main rival, Japan's six-time winner Takeru "Tsunami" Kobayashi, ate 64 and a half. It is thought the two men ate around 19 000 calories between them.
Chestnut, who won his third straight title in a row, took home $20 000 (~£12 250) in prize money and the coveted "Mustard Belt" but it's not only wieners that he can scoff down at alarming rates. He holds other world records, including eating 5 kg of macaroni and cheese in seven minutes; and 188 jalapeno peppers in 10 minutes.
