A most interesting little snippet came my way yesterday, and that was that the game of "foosball" was invented in mid-16th-century Germany, predating football by nearly 200 years.
Perhaps that explains why the Germans can play the sport...
...and England can't.
But, as far as I know, I have not researched it yet, the rules were completely different to today's football. It wasn't 11 players, but upteen times more than that chasing a ball (which was made of a blown up pig's bladder I think). In comparrison it was very rudimentary. So, as it's played these days the English have 'refined' it. It is a very long time ago I've looked at this topic.
ReplyDeleteRudimentary is how I'd describe England's game.
